The Dark Peak
This is a great area to ride a mountain bike, centred
around the Hope and Edale valleys in the northern part
of the Peak District National Park.  The trails are mainly
gritstone and contain some of the best (hardest) rocky
climbs and descents the Peaks have to offer.
Starting just below the
Derwent dam in the Peak
District this 30 mile loop takes
in some of the best riding the
area has to offer.  A must if
you like your descents rocky.
Just don't ride it in the wet.
This is the classic route starting
from Hayfield with a descent of
Jacob's Ladder then back via Mam
Tor and Roych Clough. Although
just over 17.5miles don't
underestimate this ride, with lots if
technical descending a steep climbs
it's a tough one
A hard 22 mile loop in the Dark
Peak.  Hayfield to Edale valley
and back via Kinder reservoir,
Jacob's Ladder and Roych
Clough.  A real favourite of
mine with some evil climbs and
testing descents.
This is a demanding 43mile
route from Glossop that goes
over Cut Gate south to north.
The riding is fantastic and
challenging, ascending as well
as descending.  If you have the
ability this ride is a must.
This is an 18mile route west of Hayfield
that drops into the Goyt Valley.  It is a
great introduction to the pleasures of
riding the loose gritstone trails of the area
with some great descents.  Although this
area doesn't have the extremes in height
and steepness of the Dark Peak to the
east, there are still some testing climbs.
The White Peak
The White Peak area is directly south of the Dark Peak.  The gritstone gives way to limestone which makes the
riding less harsh.  The hills are more rounded and the trails more forgiving.  This doesn't mean you can't find
challenging riding though as the area is littered with steep sided Dales to get your legs and brakes burning.
This 26mile route takes in many of
the spectacular Derbyshire Dales
which means quite a bit of climbing
and descending.  The trails are
ridable in most weathers and with a
good mixture of rocks, singletrack
and double track making it one of
my favourites.
An 18mile loop round the
rolling hills of the White Peak.
Not too technical but with
enough fun bits to keep it
interesting.  It can be muddy in
places but is still ridable in the
worst weather.
At 18.5miles this is an easier way
to experience the delights of
riding from the Ladybower
Reservoir.  It still packs in some
great riding with some fantastic
descents

This is an 18.6mile mtb route
that starts in Bakewell and travels
through the rolling hills of the
White Peak to Stoney Middleton
and back.  As well as some great
riding there are some excellent
views, especially on the trails on
Longstone Edge.
This mountain bike route of
17.6miles, which starts in Hayfield,
circles and goes through the village of
Rowarth, a few miles to the North
West.  The trails are split between the
grit stone of the Dark Peak and
limestone towards the Goyt Valley.
This produces a ride with variety that
includes some great descents.
